Social Justice, is a group exhibition featuring over 65 works by 36 local, regional, and national artists. Curated by photographer, activist, and Gallery X member, David Walega, it commemorates the ongoing fight for equality, human rights, and social justice for all beings.
Gallery X is located in New Bedford—a city renowned for its historic role in the Underground Railroad. It is appropriate that this exhibition honors the resilience and determination of those who have resisted oppression and driven impactful change. From the fight for women’s suffrage and the abolition of slavery to movements for LGBTQ+ and animal rights, past struggles continue to inspire contemporary movements for justice and equality. This exhibition provides a platform to celebrate the triumphs of collective action. it coincides with Black History Month and reflects on the intersectionality of social and environmental justice.

ABOUT GALLERY X: Located in New Bedford, Massachusetts, the gallery is at the heart of the place urban studies theorist Richard Florida declared to be the seventh “Most Artistic City in America.” The gallery, now located in a refurbished historic church building, was originally founded in 1990 by graduates of the former Swain School of Design. It is one of the New Bedford area's most accessible, longest-running contemporary, community art gallery and performance venues.
